Acid/Base Titrations (Version 4)

Produced by Newbyte Educational Software

ImageThis CD-ROM is particularly useful for teachers and students who want to explore how the strength, concentration or volume of acid/base affects the shape of the titration curve (pH versus volume added) without the need to step into the laboratory. The software allows users to monitor the effect on pH as an increasing volume of acid/base in the burette is titrated. Simply select from the array of commonly used strong and weak acids/bases.

You can also compare titration curves when different concentrations of the solutions are used. A choice of seven indicators is available for the user to determine colour changes at the end point.

Additional features include a self-testing quiz option that students can use to assess their ability to determine the concentration of a acid/base. However, while answers are provided, users are not told how they are derived. Another useful feature is the protocols for five different experiments which provide the purpose, background, procedures, as well as some useful questions that can be used for practice.

Overall, the program is rather limited in its functions, with the plotting of titration curves as its primary feature. But it comes in handy if the main purpose is to plot titration curves under different circumstances in a fuss-free way.
